I will say today's post is something that a lot of autism parents may know about, but not everyday people. So yes this is yet another post on autism. And also I will say it probably isn't for those that are squeamish.
Most of us within the autism community have children with GI issues to say the least.
Our daughter has what is know as chronic constipation, and she gets backed up to the point where the only (for lack of a better word), poo that comes out is what will come around that blockage. This does not make for a good time potty training.
We have tried a lot of things to help, duet being a big one. But to no avail.
So we ended up having to give her am enema, pica salax, and now she is on laxatives. Oh that was not a fun weekend. But it helped.
So for the time being she is okay.
But like I said a lot of autism parents go through this which is rough. Cause just think about when you are having tummy issues, you don't feel good and may lash out. But for those kiddos who are non verbal that may be where a lot of their behaviours come from and you wouldn't even know it.
But then again we have had do called specialist basically tell us we didn't know what we were talking about when we suggested that something was wrong with her tummy. But that is just something we as autism parents deal with too. After all we don't have the medical degree, we just know our kids.
Okay that is it for today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday,
Lana
